   Former Gambian Interior Minister Ousman Sonko is on trial in Switzerland on charges of "torture and crimes against humanity." 

   During Jammeh's rule, many crimes of torture, disappearance, murder, rape and extrajudicial killings targeting political opponents were committed. 


   Hanife Arslan, a 76-year-old seriously ill prisoner in Van T Type Prison, was hospitalized on January 1 and 3. 

   Arslan, who has many illnesses, is allegedly prevented from being released from prison despite her applications.

   Nazlı Vatansever, wife of Serif Vatansever, a teacher under a state of emergency decree who died in prison from coronavirus 

"My husband was tortured in detention. What are these people doing to us like this?" This disease, negligence, empty allegations took my husband away."


   This is how Mustafa Kabakçıoğlu, a police officer with a state of emergency decree, died on a plastic chair in the quarantine cell of the prison where he had been held for 4 years: His head thrown back, his fingernails bruised, his hands resting on his legs.


   After the July 15, 2016 mass arrests in Turkey, lawyer Mustafa Özben, who was kidnapped in Ankara and tortured for 92 days, spoke about his experiences in Turkey Tribunal and the documentary "92 Days in the Dark".


   When Turkish teacher Mehmet Eren was detained in Afyon on October 15, 2016, he was subjected to a brutal series of tortures.

   He was beaten with a sack over his head, electrocuted with a choke-hold, and harrowingly attempted to be raped. 


   Ayhan Demir, who was tortured at the Mersin Police Department:

    "They castrated me, is there anything more I can tell you?"


   Allegations of torture and ill-treatment are not investigatedSince 2016, it has become a rare practice to rigorously investigate allegations of torture and ill-treatment in police and gendarmerie custody and in prison, and even rarer to see perpetrators prosecuted.

   There are 28 people in wards for 7 people in Çorum L Type Prison. Children sleep with their mothers on the floor in cold wards.

    Article 17 of the Constitution protects the conditions in which prisoners are kept in penal execution institutions to be in a manner befitting human dignity. 


   Hüseyin Geçmek, a construction technician who contracted cancer in prison and was not released until stage 4, died on the morning of January 5.

   The 37-year-old Geçmek, who was given a 6-month reprieve from execution by the Forensic Medicine Institute, was released on January 27, 2023.


   AKÇARA: At the request of Ertuğrul Erbakan (in the photo), I was taken to the inner room where they were and made to sit on a chair. 

   Erbakan (in the photo) put a gun to my head and said that there was a state of emergency and that they could torture me for 30 days.


   Gökhan Açıkkollu, who is severely diabetic, was detained for 13 days in a solitary cell with 4 other people in the summer heat.

   During this period, it is known that Açıkkollu's ribs were broken, he was not given his diabetes medication and as a result he died of a heart attack. 


   Zerrin Kişi, the wife of Zabit Kişi, who was tortured for 108 days in a container in Ankara: 

   "Please, open the file and see what my husband was subjected to. Put yourself in my shoes."

It was reported by relatives that all prisoners in Karabük T Type Prison had scabies due to the conditions of the ward.On September 28, 2016 in Şırnak Prison, 2 children who had scabies and were not treated burned themselves by knocking the bed over the door and both of them lost their lives.

Erhan Doğan described the torture he was subjected to after July 15: "Three women passed in front of me where they tortured me. Their screams were very frightening, they were saying 'please don't rape us'. Their cries are still in my ears."
